ABOUT THE FILMMAKER’S VIEW
In 1917, two young friends, August Arnold and Robert Richter, rented a small former shoemaker’s store in Munich and set up shop as a film technology firm. Taking the first two letters of their surnames, they christened their new enterprise ARRI. First and foremost, Arnold and Richter were driven by a love for visual storytelling. From the very beginning they worked directly with filmmakers, and the insight they gained helped them to develop equipment that met real on-set needs. One hundred years later, in the lead-up to ARRI’s centenary, filmmakers from every continent and every side of the industry were interviewed on camera. Cinematographers, directors, lighting technicians, inventors and historians shared their experiences and their passion for moving images. This book provides a glimpse into some of those fascinating conversations–a history told through personal stories.
